Staff developments in e-learning - Final.doc
A programme of staff development for employers is required. This will aim to ensure that employers understand and know how to support work-based learning.
RSC Wales have developed an Online Toolkit to support this type of activity - http://admin.rsc-wales.ac.uk/news/show_story.asp?nid=343 and a Moodle with a range of support resources http://moodle.rsc-wales.ac.uk/course/category.php?id=33
Models of staff development
In 2007, CELT, at the University of Glamorgan, worked with ESIS to develop a Level 7 module 'The Pedagogical Application of ICT in Learning & Teaching'. Although the module focuses on developing ICT skills for learning & teaching for school teachers, the model for staff development is applicable across all sectors.
See the module outline of the module: Descriptor for Module ED4S035.docx

Communities of Practice/Professional Learning Communities
The role of Professional Learning Communities is having a notable impact on transforming learning and teaching in schools in Wales. http://www.almaharris.co.uk/plcsinwales.htm
The McKinsey Report (2007) on The World's Best Performing Schools also indicates that the best way to improve the quality of learning and teaching is to develop staff through facilitating the sharing of good practice.
